I have just taken delivery of two HDMI cables from FleaBay. Before I bought them I asked specifically if they had v1.3 on the cables or packaging, & the reply was 'YES'. Of course when they arrived (two different types!?) neither have v1.3 or anything else that I recognise. My question is, is there anywhere that I can get the technical details of the cables that I have received? One is HANNSTAR E-52534-D vw-1 (round) One is E258105 vw-1 (ribbon).
these are for my sons cheap dvd-upscaler. If I try these leads in situ, will I be able to tell if they are v1.3 or less?

If a cable is sold as 1.3 compliant then it is being claimed that it can support the higher datarate that is required by 1.3. If you later find that such a cable can't handle it then you'd have recourse to the supplier.

On the other hand, any well made, short HDMI cable is almost certain to be able to support the needs of 1.3 so it isn't much to worry about unless these are longer cables (5m+)? There is no practical way to tell if they will support 1.3 datarates other than to use them, you can't tell just from the spec of the cable stock or by looking at them. Thanks again mark: I was rather hoping that in the menu/set-up on the TV or upscaler, there might be an option, say to Upscale to 1080P if the cable allows that, or if the cable dosn't allow it, the option might be Upscale to 720p(max) type of thing. I'm not sure about the features on his TV or the upscaler yet (both new) so what is 'bitstreamed sound' please & how do we know whether it's applicable? I purposely bought 1.3 as they will do it all & is supposedly future-proof (?!) Click to expand.The code on the cable will just refer to the stock from which that section of cable was cut. The ability of a cable to meet the 1.3 spec is determined not just by the cable stock but the quality of the connections at each end so tracking down anything from that code really isn't going to help much. If you are really that worried about it just send the cables back and order from somewhere like There is no promise that it will actually say '1.3' anywhere on the cable but they are advertised as such on the UKHDMI website so you have that to fall back on if you ever needed it, but frankly you are worrying too much.
Unless these are long cables or they are not well made you'll be fine.
